Lena's Christmas plans were simple – to surprise her family. However, upon arriving in Juniper, she discovers an unexpected guest: her brother's best friend, Gavin, who disappeared for three years without a word. Despite attempting to be just friends, their undeniable tension and chemistry push them beyond that boundary.
Jillian Meadows, you've truly outdone yourself! This sweet and spicy holiday romance is a must-add to your TBR. I loved every moment and didn't want the book to end; it was that good.
Lena, facing a difficult time in her life after losing her job, is portrayed as pure joy and a protector full of color. She struggles to find her passion and is hesitant to share her failures with her family. She longs for someone to support and be there for her, feeling like the person others use to find their way to someone else.
Gavin's heartbreaking backstory involves everyone in his life leaving him – from his parents to foster families. Being friends with Auguie, Lena's brother, provides the family he's longed for. He's loved Lena for years but is reluctant to risk the only home and family he's ever had. Their one-night attempt to "get it out of their systems" falls short. Gavin believes he's not enough, but Lena's choice to fight for him and love him breaks down his insecurities.
The couple proves to be a perfect match, complementing each other in various ways. Gavin's sweet gestures, such as baking, preparing peppermint mochas, and slow dancing, contrast with his passionate, intense side during intimate moments. Gavin’s mouth is amazing! The balance between plot and spice is well-executed, showcasing Jillian's exceptional writing.
The family dynamics in "Wreck My Plans" are goals. For Lena's entire family, Gavin was considered a part of their family. Her mom saw him as one of her own, and with 20 years of friendship between Gavin and Auguie, they were more than friends – they were brothers. The support and love Lena received from her friends were amazing.
The book captures the holiday environment, traditions, and small-town vibes, with the found family trope beautifully portrayed. The emotional rollercoaster, from laughter to sadness and blushing, is thoroughly enjoyable. The epilogue ties everything together, revealing Lena's passion in Juniper and Gavin's newfound home. I highly recommend this holiday book; it's one of my favorites so far. Many thanks to Jillian for the early copy!
