SOME SPOILERS BELOW‼️
I found myself caught in a whirlwind of emotions, ultimately settling on a 3.5-star rating. Now, before we dive in, remember that this review is a snapshot of my personal experience, and I wholeheartedly respect differing opinions.
My initial letdown might have been fueled by soaring expectations, causing a sluggish start as I grappled with a surplus of information, characters, and the intricacies of the magic system. The narrative occasionally felt like a complex puzzle, making it somewhat challenging to fully immerse myself in the world Yarros had crafted.
Violet, tested my patience. Her prolonged guilt over Liam's death, doubts, and the persistent trust issues she faced with Xaden grated on me. The recurring themes of miscommunication and jealousy introduced a layer of unnecessary drama. Chapter 48 was good; iykyk🔥. Although the spicy scenes added some zest, they didn't quite compensate for the narrative's shortcomings.
Brennan's return, though anticipated, felt somewhat underwhelming. Certain things like Violet's redacted letter from Mira are introduced but left unexplored.
The dragons, initially a highlight in the series, seemed to lack the charm they exuded in the first installment. While present, their dialogue failed to captivate me as before. Andarna’s sass was lovely, though. but I longed for more interaction, reminiscent of the dynamic in the series' debut.
I can continue discussing more aspects I didn't like in the book, but I believe I've made my point.😅
Although the unexpected ending piqued my curiosity about the next book, the emotional impact fell somewhat short. The narrative, pacing issues, and an excess of drama hindered my overall enjoyment. Despite these reservations, I'm committed to continuing the series, eager to witness the progression of the storyline. It's crucial to remember that opinions on a book can vary, and while this one may not have resonated with me, it might be a perfect fit for others.
